Jefferson’s Grave

I’m a huge fan of Thomas Jefferson, and his writings about Natural Law, and how he shaped the philosophy of American Liberty.

We visited his home, Monticello, in the fall of 2010. Here are some photos of his gravesite. He and friend Dabny Carr selected the “tall oak” on this site and promised each other that the one who survived the other, would bury their friend there upon their death. Jefferson outlived Carr, and founded the graveyard at the site.

Jefferson wanted only three of his achievements listed on his grave marker.

  • Author of the American Declaration of Independence
  • Author of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom
  • Father of the University of Virginia
