Q. How many of the images are going to be Black and White?

A. Almost All!

If an image is filled with emotion, I love to present it in Black and White. This removes the distraction of color, and allows the viewer to fall into the emotional content of the image.

I learned news photography when most newspapers did not have the ability to process color film in house. Almost all of my assignments at my first two journalism jobs were photographed in Black and White. I have learned to love the story telling and emotion filled atmosphere of the black and white photograph.

Why fill the image with distracting colors? Black and white allows you to focus on Rob's anticipation of the moment -- of seeing his bride for the first time on their wedding day... of Amantha's giddy and happy expression as she walks up to her groom! Moments like this are what I love to photograph, and whenever possible, I'll present them in black and white to allow the emotion of the image to take center stage.

Q. But - What about Color?

A. Color is great for images that showcase details or for portraits.

Family groups, images that record details, images that showcase the decor or ambiance of your wedding day will almost always be presented in color. Both color and black and white images have a role in our story-telling documentary style.
